Kelly Melendez graduated from the University of North Florida with her B.A. in Anthropology. Her studies focus within the field of Archaeology, and she holds specific interest in, Physical Anthropology, Bioarchaeology, Osteology, and Mortuary & Ritual behaviors and practices.

In December of 2021, I graduated from the University of North Florida with my B.A. in Anthropology and a Minor in Criminal Justice

I was one of the few UNF undergraduate research students that had been nominated to present my Houston Cemetery research to Florida’s representatives at the capitol in Tallahassee. Unfortunately I was not selected to present, however, I was lucky to be strongly considered to attend this prestigious event.

April of 2022, I presented a poster at the 2nd annual conference of the Florida Digital Humanities Consortium held at Flagler College. This poster presentation showcased the importance of Cemetery preservation efforts, Ground Penetrating Radar in archaeology, my project findings, and discuss further needed research.

In October 2022, I will be presented alongside my mentor Dr. Gordon F.M. Rakita and the UNF Red Hill Cemetery research team at Clemson University’s Historic Cemeteries in Cultural Contexts: Local to Global Research symposium. It is at this symposium where we present our GPR research findings at Red Hill Cemetery in Waycross, Georgia.
